Scope
Syncon delivered a 4,303 square foot Design-Build kennel facility for the Naval Special Warfare Group TWO (NSWG2) Multi-Purpose Canine (MPC) Program at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story, Virginia Beach. Supporting 16 canines, the one-story facility includes stainless steel kennels, administrative offices, food prep/storage, an exam room, and veterinary support. The project featured site improvements, utilities, a steel joist roof on CMU walls, and sustainable design per UFC criteria. After completion, the existing kennel was removed.
Challenge
The project required a durable, maintainable facility within a reduced 4,303 square foot footprint to meet cost constraints, down from 6,800 square feet. It needed to support 16 kennels while integrating complex systems like SIPRNET/NIPRNET and DDC controls, all compliant with military standards. The design had to align aesthetically with adjacent buildings and evolve organically within a constrained site.
Solution
Syncon employed a Design-Build approach, using durable materials like stainless steel kennels, epoxy flooring, and CMU walls with EIFS exteriors. The facility featured energy-efficient systems, including double-pane windows and a modified bitumen roof. Phased construction kept the existing kennel operational, and close coordination ensured compliance with DoD standards, delivering a mission-ready facility on time.
