VWU – Greer Environmental Sciences Center

Scope

Classroom and student laboratory building with Gold Lead Certification.  Greer was designed by VMDO and built by another large GC firm. Chris Brandt (Syncon Business Development) was the Executive Vice President at another large GC firm during the entire design and construction.  Solar panels, rainwater collection system, sinker cypress wood exterior siding, high efficiency HVAC systems, wetlands planting used for exterior landscaping. The project Design Team was selected through an RFQ and Presentation format making them the most qualified design team through a technical and pricing submission.  

Challenge

The challenge was to incorporate as much sustainability in the project design as was allowed by the project budget which resulted in a Gold Lead Certification – (Interior and exterior, photo and video)

Solution

The project was contracted as a Construction Manager at Risk process, assembling the schedule and pricing as the design was completed in phases.  The project was continuously value managed with each design phase submission and then proceeded to the next phase of design.
